Video: Eli Escobar

Eli Escobar is an amazing DJ/producer in NYC whose blog and East Village Radio show I've been following for a while. Recently I got the chance to profile him for a short video - listen to him talk about making it as a DJ and branching out into remixing and recording original tracks.

Check out Eli's latest EP here.

Breaking Through Concrete - site & party

I've been traveling the country this summer with David Hanson, a writer, and Michael Hanson, a photographer, visiting urban farms to gather material for a book to be published by University of California press. I'm shooting video for stories we're publishing to a blog along the way.

Check out the site here. Our latest entry is on backyard gardeners in the Vietnamese community of East New Orleans.

*Also* if you are in NYC, we're throwing a party at Heathers in the East Village tonight, 506 E 13th, 8-1. I'll be dj'ing with the rest of the Z Studios crew, and we're setting up a slideshow of images and video from the trip thus far.

Get Down With the Double Down

I just produced this news package with my grease-loving friend Charlie Payne. His love of hyped fast food specialty products is unparalleled and shines through in this video.

The Flying Scissors

A very enterprising and hilarious friend of mine, Blake Harris, wrote and produced a spectacular mockumentary about the intensely competitive world of Rock Paper Scissors (RPS), called The Flying Scissors. The film has screened across the country and is now available TV-style (On Demand, Comcast, etc) and as a digital download through iTunes and Amazon.com.

It's an extremely well-produced and entertaining romp, and the cast features many recognizable faces (including Buzz from Home Alone). Drop some change on iTunes and chekkit out yo.

dont call it a comeback

or actually you can. they were gone for a while. just sounded like a snappy title.

saw the phish sunday in fenway and last night at jones beach. i was pretty amazed and fully satiated from both shows. can't wait to go again in august. they came with the hits, and balanced the tight with the loose in a phenomenal way. maybe seemed slightly tense, but i think they were just focused on not blowing it, which i'd say they were most successful at, as evidenced by a flawless YEM on sunday and the wealth of intricate goodies last night (fully loaded mike's jam, harry hood, foam). there's no denying that they are more than a hippie jam band. they are a hyper-talented college band that made it and can fill the nation's largest venues by singing songs where the only lyrics might be "david bowie / ub40". that's kind of amazing. and they still put on incredibly enjoyable shows.

here are some vids shot by people that had much better seats than i:

stream last night's show here. who's gonna be at hartford/spac?

f o r t h e z s t u d i o s

Zealous patrons of electro goodness Steph Lund and Kristin Connor, under the moniker f o r t h e b e a t, are hosting an event tonight at Le Royale in the West Village. Bands Bad Veins, Paul and the Patients, and Nite Club will be performing upstairs, while Erotto, Pan Tostado and myself will be spinning downstairs all through the night. Tix are $8 in advance here and 10 at the door.

It's going to be a fun night of gyration and libation, hope yall can make it out. I have a bevy of new tunes I can't wait to drop on the populace. Plus my rapping anesthesiologist brother, Si Hoxie aka SHOX aka DJ Walt Schiller, will be in attendance and just might get on the mic, dropping flows akin to "Like that movie with Ben Stiller, There's something about Schiller, the crevice filler, with his marble man pillar."
