JCVD

"Stallone gave me a part in his next movie. But I ask him about the subject, about the story. He said, 'You're gonna make lots of money.' I don't want to hear that, I want to hear what was my character. He was unable to tell what it's going to be. Stallone said: 'You know, uh, well, the fighting will be good.' [So I said:] 'Sly, what is my character?' So I didn't do the movie."

Jean-Claude Van Damme describing why he turned down a leading role in Sylvester Stallone's upcoming film, The Expendables, for artistic reasons. It's nice to see he's maintained his artistic integrity through his 5 marriages, serious coke problem, and brief stint with homelessness. He clearly hasn't forgotten about the Oscar-worthy roles that defined him in the late 80s: Frank Dux (Bloodsport), Lyon Gaultier (Lionheart) and Kurt Sloane (Kickboxer), to name a few. Ironically, Dolph Lundgren, who played JC's nemesis in Universal Soldier, ultimately accepted the part in Sly's upcoming film.
