flava forecast

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/theblog/archive/2007/06/13/flava_flav.jpg yesterday on NPR i heard a spokesperson for Mintel, a marketing intelligence agency, announce their flavor forecast for 2009 and i found these ones mouthwatering-ly intriguing:

  • Persimmon: a small orange fruit native to Asia that is sweet, tart and soft to pulpy in texture...the woman on air called it the "new" pomegranate not for its health benefits but for its ability to perfectly complement common fruits.
  • Lavender: lavender blended with unusual flavors-such as chocolate. supposedly a huge hit among the female tastebuds.
  • Cactus: already super popular in latin america (and just last week a friend of mine went to a mexican restauarant in boston where he ordered a delicious cactus dish). will also be added to hydrating products and will fit into that trendy health niche/aisle next to cucumber water.
  • Chimichurri: a steak marinate from argentina made of parsley, garlic, salt, onion, paprika, and olive oil. watch for it in steakhouses.
