dan brown-esque search for a da vinci painting

a dan brown esque clue in one of giorgio vasari's frescos at florence's city hall suggests that leonardo da vinci's missing painting called "the battle of anghiari" may be hiding in the wall below. "the battle of anghiari" is believed to be da vinci's largest (3x the width of "the last supper") and most hailed work as it featured an unprecedented study of anatomy and motion. before it disappeared in 1563, artists like Raphael traveled near and far to replicate the piece. read a compelling piece in today's new york times about how technology is helping solve the mystery:"A High-tech Hunt for Lost Art".

below-the first clue is a flag with the words "cerca trova" (he who seeks, finds)
