today i ate two chocolate-dipped Peeps. 
Just Born Inc. has been producing the sugary little chicks in Bethlehem, Pa. since the candy's invention in 1954. ever since, Peeps have become a mainstay of the Easter season. about 1.5 billion of the technicolored little guys are produced each year...but not all of them are consumed. while some use Peeps for decorative purposes, artists have been using them as artistic mediums and still others use them as for entertainment (see video below).
as the NYTimes put it in 2006: "What could be more American than something that's mass produced and covered in sugar?"
