music i'm digging

here is some music, old and new, that has made it's way onto my iPod shuffle this week:

1. Swedish pop duo Cleast Eatwood. "Rabbit Hole" and their cover of MGMT's "Electric Feel" are both spacey, pop-y and, well...nice. "Sad Machine" has a nice Radiohead sound going on, but not in a forced way.

2. Department of Eagles. Fred Nicolaus and Daniel Rossen founed the band when they were freshmen year roommates at NYU. chief NYTimes music critic Jon Pareles dubbed their most recent album, "In Ear Park", the 5th best album of the 2008. Their cover of Elvis's "Love Me" is outstanding, and "No One Does it Like You" and "Teenagers" swing a delightfully nostalgic california rock vibe, even though they're from BK. also check out Daniel Rossen's other project, Grizzly Bear. they're more experimental, but by no means inaccessible.

3. The Unicorns. unfortunately, the goofy Montreal indie rock/pop trio is no more, but they managed to develop a pretty significant cult following in their four years together.

4. Neutral Milk Hotel. i've been rocking out to their album "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea" nonstop since my friend WW turned me on to them. the Athens, GA rock quartet didn't make it out of the 90s together but epitomize the lo-fi 90s indie rock sound.
