why second life?

after taking a course that required me to explore the seemingly arcane world of second life, i started paying attention to second life art news. all sorts of compelling art pieces are being generated in these 3D virtual spaces that are (to the surprise of many) UN-erotic. SL artists are creating ornate virtual worlds that enable users to experience the impossible--from meditating on a rock in outer space, to walking through a frank lloyd wright house, to watching users react to the creation of a SL sweatshop, to tripping on acid--with zero accountability.

in a new Ted Talks second life founder Philip Rosedale explains the significance of these virtual spaces and his perspective of the future of the web. i think you'll be impressed.
