Mass Production Meets Luxury with Charles Lutz

"Stacked” is the culmination of the two most recent series by Charles Lutz, “Denial & Acceptance” and “Sold”. The sculpture refers to Warhol’s box sculptures of the 1960’s as well as the trunks of the luxury manufacturer Louis Vuitton. These references could not be more contradictory, luxury versus domestic, mass production versus hand crafted, utilitarian versus decorative. Warhol’s box sculptures raised the everyday objects to the level of high art. Lutz takes the works a step further by raising them to the level of luxury, highlighting the absurdity of a Brillo, Heinz, Kellogg’s box becoming a status symbol. “Stacked” will be produced in a series of 7 plus one artist proof, each with it own unique color scheme and monogramming.
