A nude watercolor painted by Picasso when he was about 20 and struggling for recognition has been found stacked against a wall in the bedroom of a house in southwest England, Agence France-Presse reported. The painting, “Entreinte” (“Embrace”), from 1901 or 1902, depicts a nude Picasso entwined with his girlfriend Louise Lenoir, known as Odette. He authenticated it in 1969. The watercolor was found with two other paintings, by George Stubbs and Alfred Munnings, both specialists in portraying horses. “To find one of these works would have been incredible, but to find three was quite exceptional,” said Guy Schwinge of Duke’s, the auctioneers that will sell the paintings on April 10. Each is expected to fetch as much as $199,000. (NYT)
