the new museum

checked out the New Museum this past saturday. its an amazing space, (to me its reminiscent of the marshmallow villain in ghost busters). the roof top has 360 balcony degree views of the city and a bar. i left the museum feeling like i didn't see very many works in terms of both quantity and range of artists. i would recommend waiting to go until the third gallery is open (only two floors were open this past Saturday). also, definitely get the audio tape; there wasn't that much didactic literature around the musuem. or at least google the artists before you go.

here's what i saw:

Paul Chan: the 7 Lights
--his work is the perfect backdrop for a elektro DP and engaged "such fundamental themes as politics, poetry, war, death, and desire, nightmares"

Sanaa: Works 1998-2008
---some sweet Japanese architecture revering light/transparency/openness.

Tomma Abts
--acrylic on canvas geometric sort of optical illusions.
