if you're in the market for a new pair of swimmin' trunks definitely check out birdwells: they'll last to the day you die. founded in the early 60's, birdwells are the archetypal board short...simple, classic, and well made.
i used to wear these when i was but a small boy at the jersey shore and thought i was the coolest cause the lifeguards all wore them. they're sadly hard to come by these days--even brave new world, point pleasant nj's answer to ron jon, no longer carries them. check out the birdwell website though to order a pair--it's still a family run affair and the website is charmingly low tech...that said, it is a bit of an ordeal gathering all the info you need to place an order, but it's certainly worth the time...you'll be the toast of bikini clad maidens up and down the coast.
